Report: Bill O'Brien to be Next Penn State Head Coach

ESPN?s?Chris Mortensen has reported Patriots?offensive coordinator Bill O?Brien has agreed to become the coach at Penn State.

The official announcement will be made tomorrow according to Mortensen?s sources. O?Brien is in the last year of his contract as New England?s offensive coordinator?and was believed to be in Pennsylvania interviewing for the position on Thursday.

This does mean the Patriots will be looking for someone new to fill the position.?A few weeks ago, I wrote about the possibility of Andy Reid coming to the Pats if he was fired in Philadelphia, but this was pure speculation on my part; although there are several possibilities.

I have seen Josh McDaniels name brought up, and while that is a legitimate candidate, he is still under contract with the St. Louis Rams.?So Patriots fans should keep an eye on St. Louis. If Jeff Fisher is hired as the new Head Coach, which many think it will, a Josh McDaniels return is favorable.

Pat Hill, former Fresno State Head Coach, is currently unemployed and a close friend of Bill Belichick. Hill could be someone to keep an eye on in the coming weeks. Hill could be a valuable asset for New England?s coaching staff.

While there are many possible scenarios, I am curious to see how the situation plays out. Good news for Patriots fans, however, O?Brien will remain the offensive coordinator through the playoffs.
